To School Desks and New Beginnings

I know my absence has been unusual for all of you. Especially since I was writing constantly over the Summer without a single day missed. But try to understand that this bitch has been busy. My life has been pretty eventful in the last couple weeks that I’ve been back at school. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to catch all of you up.

First off, the boring shit: classes. I’m taking three-classes in person on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The classes are Spanish 5, Statistics In Sociology, and Cognitive Psychology. My Spanish professor is out to get me, I swear! Her ass calls on me all the time, even if other kids haven’t spoken the entire time. Like bro, don’t play with me. The Sociology class isn’t bad since I actually have it with my friends, Molly Smith and Rachel Boone. The three of us find time to chat if we can, or sit in silence. Psychology is extremely boring because of the professor. He’s an old-balding man with a monotone voice. I actually can’t help but stare at the time and the doors until it’s time to leave Also, don’t ask me what each class is really about though, because I can’t fucking tell you. I stopped paying attention after the first day. Which, FYI for all my fellow freshmen, don’t do that. Because I’m lowkey a dumbass and I’m lost, so be smarter than me. Anyhow, my classes start at 11:30AM and end at 4:30PM. Each class is fifty-minutes. For all of those fifty-minutes, I zone out and wait until I’m finally able to leave. Sigh, I hate mandatory attendance. During my freshman year, I only had one-mandatory class then the rest were optional. I wish I still had that. One can only dream, right?

Since I don’t have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I thought those would be the best days to work a job. I successfully landed a job at “The Proper Pepperoni” (ZSU’s famous pizza place). Rachel and her boyfriend, Devin Stallard, work part-time there as well, just never at the same time as me. I have attempted to make friends with some of my co-workers, and they’re all really nice, but no friends yet. I’ll have to just keep trying, I guess. I work from 11AM to 5PM, which means I don’t have to deal with huge rushes of people. I’m lucky if I get ten-customers a day. To keep myself busy, I’m constantly cleaning or folding pizza boxes. Then if that is done, I stand around on my phone. My job back home (the movie theater) would never have allowed that. I have loved my new job so far, however, there are two words that are going to make me hate it: football season. During football season, all of the restaurants on campus become so crowded with people that it’s nearly impossible to get in anywhere. “The Proper Pepperoni” is one of them. Rachel and I have hopes of possibly working a shift together in the future since all of the place’s workers are about to get hella hours for the season. I’d love to work with her, but football season busy-ness…ew. Ugh, I can’t wait.

My college best friend, Kaylee Brown, and I spend nearly every second of our free time together. We have a ritual of going to the gym together in the evenings. Besides the gym, we will grab dinner or make appearances at the other’s homes. I like her home and her dog, Billy. I have to say, it’s still a little awkward. It’s her roommates, Maria Perez and Juan Rivera, that make it feel awkward. I feel like I shouldn’t need to recap anymore on why; yet I will anyway. Long-story short, Juan and I used to see each other but he dumped me at the beginning of the Summer because he wasn’t ready to commit and wanted to keep doing his own shit.

Now Maria is Juan’s friend, but she has always had a little bit of a love-hate relationship with me. Even when he and I were “together”. She sort of disliked me from day one when Kaylee and I became friends. However, Maria and I get along pretty well these days. At least, I think we get along pretty well. As for Juan and I…it’s complicated. Some days, he’s indifferent toward me and greets me with a smile. Other days, he completely ignores me and rolls his eyes at me. Don’t bother asking me what’s going on there because I don’t know. I think…we’re frenemies? We’re friendly on the surface, but dislike each other deep down. I’m not 100% sure if there’s a better way to describe it. I don’t want him to not like me, strangely enough. And I think I’m working my way back into his good graces. I make a great blueberry-layer dessert; so to be nice, I made a tray for Kaylee and her roommates. When I brought it into their home, Kaylee grabbed a spoon for a bite. Juan took it from her next, taking a bite himself. He looked at me with fireworks in his eyes and these exact words:

“Fuck. Yeah, this is gonna be gone by tomorrow.” Then he continued to eat it. A win is a win. That was a pretty big win, if you ask me. Where will it go from here? I’m not sure. But as long as he and I can be civil, then that’s all I need.

As for my current love life, things are starting to look up. All I can say is: I love dating apps. As someone who is socially awkward and suffers from “resting bitch face”, dating apps make it a lot easier to meet someone. And I have met someone. His name is Andrew Reid, he’s twenty, and a major in engineering. He’s tall with dirty-blond hair and blue-eyes. Not usually what I go for, but he’s still cute, nonetheless. He and I are grabbing frozen yogurt on Wednesday evening, so I have that to look forward to. I have a few others I’m talking to and would potentially like to set up dates with. Only time will tell what will happen with all of those. I hope Andrew is as nice in person as he is over chat.

As for right now, I’m actually back in my hometown for the Labor Day weekend. It was also my mother’s birthday yesterday. My stepdad, mom, my best friend Brianna Martinez, and I went to dinner. Unfortunately, my little sibling has a cold and couldn’t come. And why is my best friend coming to family dinner? We have a joke that Brianna is the “adopted child” because of how often she comes over. So, we invited her to the family dinner. It was an expensive steakhouse in the downtown area of our city. The food was delicious and all four of us were so bloated at the end of the night. Today, I am packing my things and cleaning my room a little before I head back to ZSU tonight.

That has basically been my life. Juan drama, a new job, and hanging out with my friends. Besides my date on Wednesday, nothing else is new. My friend, Cassie Hendrix, is actually make the 1.5-hour drive to ZSU on Saturday morning. She’s a Senior in high school this year and has been on a college search. I will be giving her a tour of ZSU this weekend. However, Cassie actually doesn’t have that much interest in coming here. In the next state over, there’s a good university called OCU. OCU is a huge party school with several great programs; Cassie would thrive there. But several of her older friends attend ZSU, so she’s really just coming to see all of them. I’m excited to see her since we never really hangout that much. It should be fun.

That’s the post for today. Here are some honorable mention moments that also happened to me in the last couple weeks:

  1. Got sexually harassed by an old creepy man while working at “The Proper Pepperoni”. It was so bad to the point my manager had to kick him out.
  2. I went to a Shabbat dinner with my Jewish friend, Diana Torres. Turns out I’ve met a lot of the boys there from my dating apps. And Diana has beef with her old hookups that attend Shabbat. I met a lot of her guy-friends that the Rabbi keeps trying to set her up with. Will the Rabbi ever realize she’s a lesbian?
  3. I had a guy on a dating app message me for two-weeks straight telling me “I wanna take you to pound town so bad”. Obviously, I didn’t let him cause wtf?
  4. My friend and Molly’s boyfriend, Carter Bui, and I went to “Ulta” to get me some makeup and smell the perfumes. Carter has quite the nose for colognes and perfumes. We smelled “Valetino: Born In Roma”; that literally made us melt. So, I did in fact pay $200 for that bottle of perfume. No regrets.

That’s it for AC Lane for now! Until next time!
